Two students, caught up in an intense love affair, have set out on a trip into the beautiful mountains of Norway. One day, driving home, their carefree holiday is brought to an abrupt end. They hit an elderly woman--and make the decision to drive on. Anxious, troubled, they endlessly go over the event while waiting for the police to catch up with them. Miraculously though, life goes on; yet they drift apart and find themselves with other partners. Years later, they meet again, quite by accident, and old feelings resurface. Who was the old woman they hit? Why has there been no retribution for their reckless mistake? The painful secret that has kept them apart now draws them together again.
