Parthiban Kanavu is a Tamil classic novel . It is the first of a trilogy which is set during the reign of Narasimha Pallavan Narasimhavarman. It is a work of historical fiction in which the protagonist Vikraman, who is the son of the Chola king, Parthiban, attempts to fulfill his fathers dream of restoring the lost glory of the Chola dynasty by gaining independence from the Pallava ruler of the region.Parthiban, the Chola king is killed in a battle against the Pallavas over Parthibans refusal to pay taxes to them. Parthibans son, Vikraman vows to seek revenge against Narasimhavarman. However, due to his uncles betrayal, Vikraman is arrested and banished from India.Vikraman returns later and finds out that his mother has been kidnapped by a savage tribe which believes in human sacrifice. He also ends up falling in love with a beautiful girl, Kundhavi and comes to know that she is the daughter of his mortal enemy, Narasimhavarman. The book ends with a twist in the tale
